Hello Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
Welcome to the week before SPRING BREAK!! WOOHOO!!! I am very proud of the progress the students are making. This week students will submit their research for their project and submit the final research project on Wednesday. I wanted to explain what happens with a project, students are encouraged to seek answers and research in order to critically think about their topic. The purpose of the project is to assess their learning, therefore, I am there as a facilitator and will guide them, but I will not give them the answers. Hello Parent(s)/Guardian(s)/Students!
This week has been an interesting week. I was out on Tuesday and Wednesday, therefore, we did not have time to get into our research for the Age of Colonization. Since I have been out, I will be extending the lesson on the Age o Colonization (Columbian Exchange). Please make sure you have your field trip money and permission slips turned in by Friday, September 30th. Our field trip is next Wednesday and I want everyone to be able to attend. The unit on Colonization is supposed to last 3 weeks because we have a lot of information to cover! Make sure you are checking Google Classrooms and accessing your EdPuzzle account for your history videos. As always, it is a pleasure to work with so many talented students and I am excited about where we will go in the classroom this year! Ms. Gibbs This week we are finishing up the Age of Exploration. Students worked hard on research and making sure they understand the famous explorers. Starting next week, students will begin to study WHY the European countries decided to colonize, how do cultural beliefs impact colonization and how the Europeans nations spread disease throughout the New World.
Students will study the Columbian Exchange, the Transatlantic Slave Trade and the Middle Passage. During this time in history, many countries claimed land from Native Americans, then set up colonies in order to establish the land as their own. We will begin a project where students will study the trade routes and identify the causes and effects, analyze the pros and cons of each route and explain the impact of colonization on slavery. Please feel free to contact me at anytime. Ms. Gibbs [email protected] |
